Here are MacaroniKID Pittsburgh City's picks for the five things to do in the City of Pittsburgh with kids from October 14th to October 20th, 2023. Click on the links for all the details!
1. Children's Museum Fun Activities
Now Open: Wobbleland! Explore an interactive collection of giant soft-sculpture fruits and vegetables that offers creative discoveries for toddlers and young children, and will visually delight all ages. The Children's Museum of Pittsburgh is open 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily for programs that are perfectly designed for your kiddo's creative mind. On Monday children have the opportunity to practice their fine motor skills through using their muscle strength and hand-eye coordination from 10 a.m. to noon. Tuesdays kids enjoy sensory play from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Join the museum in the community garden on Wednesdays in front of the museum to help tend and learn about aspects of plant care from 11 a.m. to noon. On Thursdays listen to nursery story times that are autumn-themed 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. From 10 a.m. to noon on Fridays allow your children to be little scientists who can observe and ask "what if" questions about the world around them. Saturday, October 15th, join Sarah Cohen for Mosaics to explore the connections between art and the natural world.
2. Live Performances
- Join the Pittsburgh Orchestra for Disney: The Sound of Music on October 15th at Heinz Hall. View your favorite characters and soundtracks to places you have never imagined with a big-screen in a live-to-film concert. It will take you on a magical carpet ride through all of those favorite songs and movie moments everyone cherishes. Prices will range between $25 to $105 and all tickets MUST be purchased in advance at www.pittsburghsymphony.org .
3. Trick or Treat
- Kenny’s Trick-or-Treat is just right for your kids who are age 10 and under. Have them participate in a park-wide scavenger hunt that has the opportunity to win a prize. Grab that map at Trick-or-Treat Headquarters and get a stamp from all nine locations to receive your spooky goodie bag. - Stop at the parking lot in the Unity Community Center for a fun Trunk or Treat on October 15th. The church will have the trunks decorated and ready to hand out some goodies.
- With Halloween coming up so soon, do not forget about National Costume Swap Day. While you can't swap your costumes out at the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, you can drop them off to be upcycled!

4. The Greatest Show on Earth
Come on down and step right up to see the Ringling: The Greatest Show on Earth. See acts that take place high up in the air on a highwire, see a trapeze, bicycle, and so much more that you would never believe that one could see. The price is $16 per person. See this crazy performance on October 20 at 7 p.m., October 21st at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., and on October 22nd at noon and 4 p.m.
5. Monster Mash Halloween Party
Did someone say HALLOWEEN PARTY. Carnegie Library of Lawrenceville has a Monster Mash that involves dancing, tricks, treats, and spooky fun. Dance your heart out and fill your bellies with all of the goodies you can at this fun, FREE event on October 14th.
6. Spooky Movie Nights
Halloween Movies in the Park at Hartwood Acres Mansion Lawn is hosted by Allegheny County. Come watch the original Hocus Pocus movie on October 17th starting at 6:25 p.m. Make sure to bring your fuzzy blankets, and snacks, and watch the FREE movie. Make sure not to let the sisters cast a spell on you once the sun goes down.
