Laughlin Children’s Center in Sewickley, PA, offers a full schedule of summer learning fun for children from preschool through high school. During the lazy days of July and August, students can experience “The Summer Slide,” a phenomenon where students begin to lose some of the gains that they’ve made during the school year. Laughlin has a number of programs that not only halt the “Summer Slide,” but help students gain a variety of new skills as well.

For those in preschool, the Village Preschool at Laughlin Children’s Center offers two weeks of day camp experiences, complete with themed lesson plans, developmentally appropriate activities, and lots of outdoor fun. Children entering kindergarten and first grade can gain valuable academic and social readiness through the K-1 Skill Builders, individualized attention aimed at helping students with the transition to school. For students in grades 1 through 12 who need help with math, reading, and writing, our traditional one-on-one tutoring is a sure-fire way to use the valuable summer months to catch up, stay strong, or move ahead.

Middle and High school students in need of credit recovery (“Summer School”) to advance to the next grade level can work with Laughlin and their home school district to arrange for one-on-one help. In many cases, the number of classroom hours can be greatly reduced, given the individualized nature of our credit recovery program. Those 6th through 12th grade students looking for test-taking, organization, and study skills will find loads to learn when they attend a weeklong “Study Smarter, Not Harder” workshop. And for students looking to prep for the SAT, ACT, and other standardized test, Laughlin offers one-on-one sessions individualized to the unique needs of each students—whether that means learning strategies for success, or just brushing up on content knowledge.

So, as you can see, Laughlin has the whole spectrum of ages and interests covered this summer! But that’s not all—if you have a child who needs a speech evaluation, speech-language therapy, child or family counseling, or a psycho-educational evaluation, Laughlin’s speech and psychology departments see clients throughout the summer months as well.
