Choosing A Cake Flavor
Don't be afraid to give your guests a choice!
By: Michelle Maseth, Owner of One Sweet Cookie
Michelle Maseth,
How many of you have fallen victim to the traditional almond wedding cake with raspberry filling? or the standard vanilla birthday cake? Now don't get me wrong, both flavors are very traditional and very delicious, however, they are very....boring and predictable! Most people don't eat cake very often, so when they do, surprise them! Make them ask for seconds or even better, ask where you got the cake from! (Hint, hint....)

Flavors seem to be the biggest hurdle most of my new customers face. Most say, "You have so many that sound delicious....but I'm afraid!" (This is where in my head I say...um, afraid of what? A totally delicious, unique cake flavor that your guests will love? Yeah, sounds terrible!) Many customers break down that vanilla birthday cake wall and try something new! Others choose to have two flavors, the "steady stand-by" and a new flavor. More often than not, customers will contact me and say "I wish I would have done the whole thing with the caramel apple filling" or "the kids totally went crazy over the m&m filling" and honestly, what kid wouldn't?
How do you pick a new flavor? If you are having a hard time, think of your or your child's favorite "go to" sweet. Do you like smore's, peanut butter cups, oreos, caramel mochas? Those can all be turned into a cake or filling! Maybe you are more of a chocolate and fruit combo kind of person...the chocolate covered strawberry or cherry filling is delicious! The flavor list on my website is not all inclusive and can be altered for any taste. Think outside the vanilla birthday cake box- you will be so happy you did!
