Feeling crafty? This project is for you. Tom The Thankful Turkey- As Seen On KDKA It's adorable and fairly easy to make albeit, a true craft.
Start with two styrofoam balls. One large for the body and one small for the head. I chose two shades of yarn. I wrapped the body poriton in dark yarn and the small head portion, in light yarn.
Then using popscile sticks or some thin dowel rods or even wooden skewers, I put the body together.
Added some eyes, a paper beak and a gobbler.
The base was an issue for me. Once together, he kept rolling. So I created a base and covered it in some fabric I had. The base was actaully an empty ribbon roll. That completely worked when I hot glued the body to the base.
I added some ribbon feet.
The feathers are just cut out of some extra fabric I had laying around. The paper is cardstock and each family member wrote one or two "words of thanks." I glued the back of each to a dowel rod.
Then I simply pushed the dowls into the back of his body.
I had to really push hard, but it eventually went in!
Low cost, high impact. A favorite of ours!
We'll display him at our table this year.
