The time I caught my oldest nephew dunking his chicken nugget in his milk, then his ketchup, I was boggled realizing he was mimicking myself and his mother dunking our biscotti in our coffee. I was impressed with his observation and what a flavorful eater he became that day. I would later afford him five bottles of hot sauce to keep feeding his curiosity for flavor!
When I recently ran into employees of Penn Ave. Fish Company at Mikkusu Matcha Tea House I thought it would be nostalgic to revisit my friend Henri over a DIY story we published together over 10 years ago —‘I Can Cook Fish at Home’ Guide.
I asked “As we approach the holidays and economic conditions are challenging food source. How can we encourage everybody to eat what is offered; especially fish? Interesting sauces?”
Henri: “My two opinions are limit what is eaten prior to a meal, build an appetite” he laughs “and get involved the process, turn a mild fish into a homemade breaded stick. Then, dip it in any one of our five house-made sauces.”
He then introduced me to one of his most loyal customers, Lesley Weaver, a mother and long-time friend from the North Hills adding “I second get involved, my kids were fishing and visiting Penn Ave. Fish Company at very young ages. My now 16-year old, still LOVES to come and learn.”
Philosopher Lao Tzu wisely shares “…give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.”
