Carnegie Museum of Art welcomes visitors of all ages back to Inside Out in the museum’s Sculpture Court on Thursday and Saturday beginning June 15 through August 23. The free outdoor summer event series celebrates Pittsburgh’s rich cultural landscape with a summer of flourish, including revitalizing outdoor performances, art-making and viewing, and—new this year—Saturday workshops curated by Alecia Dawn Young of YOGAMOTIF for the mind, body, and spirit.
The season kicks off on Saturday, June 15, with Pear lArts Movement & Sound Presents:Flourish: The Ripple Effect, featuring Jasmine Hearn, slowdanger, and Chitra Subramanian.PearlArts Movement & Sound connects a collective of movement artists to extend dance and sound from inside the museum to the Sculpture Court with a performance embodying patience and power.
On Saturday, July 20, visitors who register online in advance at carnegieart.org/event/summer-exhibitions-celebration/ will enjoy free museum admission from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. during our Summer Exhibitions Celebration, presented by Dollar Bank. This special occasion honors the season’s exhibitions on view with Squonk Opera’s interactive Parade of Recycled Wonders, exhibition tours, community, and conversation.
Inside Out Night, a free 21+ party under the stars, closes the season, on Friday, August 23. PearlArts Movement & Sound will create an immersive outdoor dance party to the power of beats found in house music and music from the Afro-Caribbean diaspora.
Throughout the series on Thursday nights, dance your heart out or relax into the evening as the talent of Pittsburgh’s expansive nightlife scene takes over. DJs, musicians, and dancers transform our Sculpture Court into a can’t-miss happy hour destination. On Saturdays, the Sculpture Court becomes your place to imagine, wonder, relax, nourish, play, and create while being immersed in art and performance by regional arts organizations, dance companies, and creative collaborations. Local food trucks, such as Moonlit Burgers’ Patty Wagon, El Rincón Oaxaqueño, The BoonSeek, and others, as well as a food and beverage program designed by Café Carnegie, will be on-site for visitors to enjoy.
