Handmade Arcade will feature 30 new and emerging artists, craftspeople, and makers at its fifth annual Spring Market on Saturday, May 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. hosted at Construction Junction. Selected from nearly 200 applicants, the 30 featured makers create innovative home decor, inventive ceramics, bold artwork, handcrafted accessories, statement jewelry, and more. The Spring Market is free and does not require registration. Free parking is available. As the region’s largest maker-supporting nonprofit, Handmade Arcade creates year-round opportunities to empower creative entrepreneurs by providing professional development opportunities and connecting makers to customers. The Spring Market is a unique opportunity for selected independent makers to gain experience selling at a market in order to develop a wider customer base and hone their in-person selling expertise in order to participate in more markets in the future. “This event aligns so perfectly with Handmade Arcade’s mission to give makers opportunities for professional development and connecting with customers,” says Kelsey Ford, Handmade Arcade’s Executive Director. “Selling at larger in-person markets can feel intimidating to new makers, especially if it’s a market like our annual Holiday Market where makers see 10,000+ shoppers in only two days. Our Spring Market is a more accessible entry point for in-person market sales so new makers can hone their skills, connect with customers, and prepare to apply for larger in-person markets as their businesses grow.” In addition to the 30 selected makers, Handmade Arcade is partnering with The KRUNK Movement, a project of Center of Life, to feature handmade products from youth makers. The KRUNK Movement is an after-school fellowship program that serves as a vibrant hub for music and arts for youth ages 13 to 18. Youth makers will sell a diverse range of products at Handmade Arcade’s Spring Market, including upcycled clothing, handmade jewelry, art prints, and more.
FOOD & DRINK Attendees shopping at the market will also enjoy delicious food and drink options from new and emerging vendors in Pittsburgh. Les Deux, a mobile espresso bar, will offer a selection of coffee and espresso drinks. Lulá' La Chula will also be on-site with delicious Oaxacan eats, including tamales, tlayudas, and elotes. |
