Pittsburgh 2024 Eclipse: Family-Friendly Events and Activities!

Mark your calendars for April 8, 2024, and get ready to join in on the fun under the sun! Macaroni KID Pittsburgh City has been gathering all the info you need for the upcoming solar eclipse. From eclipse viewing parties to educational workshops and more, they've compiled a comprehensive list of family-friendly activities. Don't miss out on this celestial spectacle - it's sure to be an exciting day!





David Lawrence Convention Center

2:00 - 4:00pm

Eclipse glasses will be provided, and food & drink options will be available for purchase from Levy.

Carnegie Science Center

10 – 5:00pm

Eclipse glass will be provided with admission while supplies last. Dive into the spectacle with special solar observation gear, featuring a mind-blowing solar telescope. Witness the magic with live footage streamed from NASA on the Buhl Planetarium dome and join numerous solar eclipse activities for the entire family.

Solar Eclipse with the Park Rangers at Boyce Park Four Seasons Activity Center

2 - 4:00pm

Join the Park Rangers in viewing this rare phenomenon. This is a stationary program appropriate for all ages and ability levels. A limited number of eclipse viewing glasses will be available.


Solar Eclipse with the Park Rangers at Hartwood Acres Middle Road Parking Lot

2 - 4:00pm

Join the Park Rangers in viewing this rare phenomenon. This is a stationary program appropriate for all ages and ability levels. A limited number of eclipse viewing glasses will be available.


Solar Eclipse with the Park Rangers at South Park Fairgrounds

Solar Eclipse with the Latodami Naturalists at North Park Pool Parking Lot

Baldwin Borough Public Library

2 - 3:30pm

Eclipse glasses will be provided, no registration required.

Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall

Allegheny Observatory

2 - 4:30pm

Join the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy and the Pittsburgh Park Rangers for an eclipse viewing at the Allegheny Observatory in Riverview Park! Glasses will be provided while supplies last.


Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens - Solar Eclipse Day

1 - 4:00pm

Phipps is making a limited number of eclipse glasses available to visitors. Stop by our front desk between 1 – 4 p.m. to claim a pair while supplies last, then tour their Spring Flower Show: A Closer Look and step onto their sun terrace (doors near the fish tank in our Tropical Forest Conservatory) or front lawn between 3:10 – 3:20 pm. to take in the sight. Glasses are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Main (Oakland)

1 - 4:00pm

Join the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh for an astronomical adventure! Step into the cosmic realm at the library entrance as we celebrate the breathtaking beauty of a solar eclipse. Immerse yourself in a range of exciting activities suitable for all ages. Don’t miss the chance to safely observe the eclipse with complimentary eclipse glasses, available while supplies last.


Peters Township Public Library - Rolling Hills Park

2 - 4:30pm

Games on the Great Lawn and Auntie Anne's Preztel Truck with treats for purchase. Eclipse glasses will be given out at Watch Party (while supplies last)

Jefferson Hills Public Library 

2 - 4pm

Bring a blanket and join the Jefferson Hill Public Library on the hillside to watch the eclipse. There will be spaced-themed snacks, supplies to make your own pinhole viewer, and a bracelet-making station with sunlight-activated color-changing beads. Attendees will receive a free pair of eclipse glasses, while supplies last.

Northland Public Library - Eclipse in a Bag  

Bags will be available for pick up from 10 a.m. April 2 through 12 p.m. April 8 

Eclipse in a bag kit containing the following: 1 pair of eclipse glasses, a simple glasses case to make for your eclipse glasses, an indirect eclipse viewer, supplies to create a model of a solar eclipse and more information about the 2024 Solar Eclipse. Limited Supplies available - must register.
