By Amanda Thomas - Local Mac Momma and Business Owner July 20, 2021

Did your pregnancy and postpartum journey not go exactly as you envisioned it?

Did you have physical pain or other concerns that you felt were unaddressed by your providers?

I am here to share with you that you are not alone. The vision of Amanda Thomas Physical Therapy/Doula Services LLC  is to provide complete care and support to women during pregnancy and postpartum. My goal is to help you to have the best pregnancy and postpartum experience possible!

If you are experiencing pain during pregnancy or in the postpartum period, a pelvic floor physical therapist can help.  I specialize in treating conditions that are common during pregnancy and postpartum - the ones that no one really wants to talk about.  During pregnancy, this can include pelvic, back and hip pain, urinary/fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, painful sex, and round ligament pain.

Pregnancy/Birth

If you just found out you are pregnant, I can provide a personalized treatment plan for helping you to remain pain-free during your pregnancy.  I can also provide education on birthing positions and techniques you can use during labor to protect your body.

Postpartum

There's a major gap in the care of mothers after they give birth.  Oftentimes women don't feel that their physical issues are being addressed and feel that all they hear is “it'll get better in time.”  Don't settle for this!  I can help you recover and get you back to doing what you love.  Common conditions we treat in the postpartum period include diastasis recti, urinary/fecal incontinence, scar pain from tearing/episiotomy, C-section scar pain, pain with sex, pelvic organ prolapse, core weakness, constipation, and back/hip/pelvic pain.  I even see clients that don't have any of these issues but want to make sure their pelvic floor and core muscles are working correctly prior to returning to exercise or work!

Postpartum Doulas

Another amazing resource for new families in the days and weeks after the birth of a baby is a postpartum doula.  If you've had a baby before, you remember the feeling when you first got home and had to figure out feeding, burping, sleeping schedules, swaddling, bathing, cooking, and more -- all by yourself!  No more hospital staff or midwives to help! It can be overwhelming.  Hiring a postpartum doula can help take pressure off of you so that you can enjoy your new baby.  Postpartum doulas can help with bathing your baby, swaddling, nap/feeding schedules, basic lactation support, caring for older siblings, and watching your baby while you nap/shower.  You can send your postpartum doula on food shopping runs for you and they can even assist with meal prep.  Postpartum nutrition is vitally important to recovery, milk production, and mental health.

Don't let your concerns and challenges be unaddressed.  Please reach out today to schedule your pregnancy/postpartum physical therapy evaluation.  I am here to help!
