Why:
- OpenStreetsPGH invites Pittsburghers to imagine what their cities and neighborhoods could look like if more street space was dedicated to serving people outside of motor vehicles.
- This series is inspired by the open streets movement – a global endeavor to promote healthy outdoor activity and community engagement using city streets. Pittsburgh is one of hundreds of cities worldwide (over 100 in North America alone) that hold open streets events.
- “This summer over 7 miles of city streets will be closed to vehicles and given back to the people for the ninth year of our beloved event series. BikePGH is proud to present OpenStreetsPGH events each year - building more connected communities and encouraging the public to envision our streets as places for people-powered activity,” said Kéya Joseph, BikePGH Events Director.
- “UPMC Health Plan is once again proud to support this summer’s OpenStreetsPGH series. We’re excited to continue our partnership with BikePGH to bring Pittsburghers together for fun, family-friendly bike rides and community events that promote healthier lifestyles and stronger neighborhoods,” said Dr. Chet Ho, Chief Medical Officer at UPMC Health Plan.
