AWESOME NIGHT AT THE MALL AT ROBINSON
And Some GREAT Party Ideas!
February 8, 2012
We had a rootin’ tootin’ good time at Macapalooza at The Mall at Robinson. Cowboyz and Cupidz was a HUGE success and we want to thank everyone that came out to make the night such a great time. It was awesome to get to meet so many people and connect with our readers. I loved seeing all of the families enjoying a night out on the town… MAC KID STYLE! In case you missed it, we’ll do a quick recap and show you some of the fabulous photos. If you happen to be planning any type of a party, these ideas may get your creative juices flowing and give you some inspiration. Lots of ideas for a “western” theme but many can be adapted for several different themes. What is cowboyz party without a horse and laso?? The kids had a great time with this one and it was one of those “stations” you can have at your party that doesn’t need a ton of prompting. Give them a rope and a blow up horse (we ordered this from Oriental Trading and it’s actually a donkey but shhhh… don’t tell!) and let them go to town!
Headbands are a staple here at Macaroni Kid because the kids LOVE them. It’s one of those crafts that can be for boys, girls, young and old. The band part of this craft just sentence strips bought from a teacher’s store and they were CHEAP. We just ordered lots of stickers that fit our theme and let the kids stick them on. In the past, we have used staples to keep them adhered but this time, we simply used one of the stickers to hold it together after being sized and it cut out a step and made it a bit safer. We didn’t use crayons or markers but you certainly could have them decorate them using any type of medium you like. This is a great activity for kids to start on as the kids are filtering in at the beginning of the party because it can take as long or go as quickly as you’d like it to!
We had some great photo opportunities! Jessie was a big hit at the party and characters are always popular with the little ones! This costume was actually made by the sister of our editor, Debby, and so a BIG thank you goes out to Jenny for making Jessie come to life. You can rent one, buy one or make one and just bribe, beg or pay a dear friend to dress up. We also had Molly Macaroni our very own mascot!! She is so much fun so look for her at future events!! The wanted poster was also very popular and quite simple to set up.

If you don't have access to a dress up character, a standup one can be ordered on-line and can be a great photo opportunity for your party. The great thing about these is they can be dressed up to fit your theme and used time and time again! Perhaps our most popular station was the sand digging station!! We had 2 pools filled with 50 pounds of sand in each pool. We had “treasure” hidden in the sand. We simply ordered foam western themed beads on-line and hid them in the sand. We had sand sifters and shovels and let them go to town! I would HIGHLY recommend a sturdy tarp underneath because it can make a mess. The kids sifted through the sand and found their favorite 6 or 7 beads and they took them over to a table and chose a pipe cleaner and made a bracelet!! Isn’t that cool???!!! You bury any “treasure” in the sand and have them dig, dig dig! If you have little ones and the sand makes you nervous, we’ve also used big balls like the ones from a ball pit and had them dig for treasure in there.

We also had a table of tattos and this is a quick and easy station for your party!
We hope you had as much fun as we did!! We also hope you got some great ideas for your next kid birthday party, school party or just a weekend of fun with your family!
