2017 BACK TO SCHOOL: LOCKER MAKE OVERS

August 26, 2017

Lockers are all the rage!  Kids as young as 8 sometimes have the opportunity to have a locker!   If your child is so lucky and your school permits some non permanent decorations then you are in luck!  We found some super fabulous ways to save some pennies!  In three steps your student can be ready for a locker make over!

Step 1:  Organize

You can find locker SHELVES just about anywhere.  These are GREAT for creating that extra area for books etc.  We found one of all places?  GOODWILL!

Happy Holders

There are lots of ways to organize your locker but why not transform something you BUY into something beautiful with some embroidery floss/ string.  ( We simply wove a pattern in it!)

Not your cup of tea?  Then look around your house for HOLDERS!  We used an Altoid tin, and eye glass case and first aid tins from 5Below to make a handy dandy zip drive and ear bud holder!  Students are ALWAYS misplacing them so stick them in the holder, slap a magnet on the back with hot glue and have your child stick it to their locker door!

I KNOW!  So CLEVER!   Why didn't YOU think of it?

Step 2:  Decoratize-- wait that's not a word!  We don't care!

* DIY locker wallpaper

This stuff is ALL THE RAGE and it's expensive to be honest.  Grab a ROLL of cheap gift wrap paper from the dollar bin somewhere and cut it to size.

 I folded the edges back and duck taped them on the back to further give them some "strength."  Then I simply decorated some heavy duty magnets with some gems to hold the paper in place.

 It's lovely and in fact, almost exactly the same as what you'd buy for at least 7.99.

* DIY chandelier

Honestly, how cute are THESE?  They sure are but they also are very expensive unless you find a score like I did ( ROSS- West Pittsburgh 9.99) Otherwise they are 14.99 to 18.99 depending on which ones you want.  With some patience, some time, some materials from Michael's or perhaps that you have laying around in your scrap book room-- you can make this knock off for sooooooo much less.

And it's adorable!

Step 3: Accessorize

* Magnet Mania

I've been blabbering above about magnets and varying uses for them.  Buy a pack of 52 at Michael's.  They are heavy duty and PERFECT for lockers and all that we have dreamed up!

Make your OWN custom magnets using erasers and fun trinkets from around your HOUSE, in your scrapbook room or from the dollar store.

We found ALL OF THESE and made them our own.  Even the dudes can't resist a great sports quote on an OLD CD.

What?   Yes, we re-purpose TOO!

* DIY photo frame white board

You can TOTALLY buy a million types of white boards everywhere.  Already pre-fabulous and ready for the locker.  If however, you do not like the looks of anything you found. Customize it!   Use duck tape, ribbons, flowers, nuts and bolts and more TO MAKE IT YOUR OWN!

We used a photo frame ( light weight) with a piece of plastic for the glass.  We simply turned around the photo insert so that it was WHITE and went to town.

Put a magnet on the back and magically-- we had a dollar white board.  We added some duck tape for decoration and had a custom boy's white board.

We also went AWOL and did some mirrors!  $1 plus some ribbon I had!

Happy Back To School Everyone!  We hope you love our locker ideas and encourage you to share your own below!   Remember if you can't afford it, figure out a way to make it on your own.
