Kiana DelGrosso, a senior at CAPA, will dance the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and Courtney Killmeyer, a student at Brashear High School, will dance as the Snow Queen. Jamie Pachuta, who attends Pittsburgh Obama, will portray the part of Clara, while Nigel Armbruster of Baldwin High School will be her Nutcracker Prince who comes to life and takes her to the Candy Kingdom. Stephanie Hrabar, a senior at Pittsburgh Science and Technology dances the role of Dew Drop.
Over 70 dancers from many community dance schools ranging in age from 5 to adult round out the cast of swirling snowflakes and candy flowers. Monica Ryan, choreographer and director of the Carnegie Performing Arts Center is celebrating the thirty-fifth anniversary production of The Nutcracker. New this year in the Kingdom of the Sweets is Candy Popcorn, with a dance celebrating the Mexican origin of popcorn. This adds yet another country and culture saluted in the colorful Candy Kingdom. As in the past, there will be a raffle and Chinese Auction during the intermissions of the three acts of The Nutcracker.
