Happy Birthday To Your Pet!

Ways To Celebrate Your Fur Baby

By Jennifer Green May 28, 2016
In honor of your birthday baby we came up with some fun ways to honor and celebrate our furry family members!  Here's a list of some things you can do to show some love for your pet, or maybe be inspired to bring a new cat or dog into your family!

  • Shelters are always in need of blankets, food, and other essentials, and most usually have a "wish list" posted on their website. Find a shelter near you and consider donating some of the items they need. No time to shop or nothing at home that you can part with? A shelter will gladly accept a monetary contribution!

  • Consider fostering a pet. This takes commitment, both of time and money, but you're saving a life, and that's a great lesson to teach your kids. Can't foster? Consider sponsoring a foster dog or cat. Many rescues accepting monetary donations that are then used to help foster "parents" with the expense of keeping the animal.

  • This is a great time to bring home a new pet! But really, anytime is a good time to adopt a shelter animal! Obviously shelters and rescues are a great places to start, but Petfinder can help you if you're looking for a specific breed. Plus, Petfinder also lists animals that are currently in foster homes. Nearly 4 million animals are euthanized in shelters every year, so when you rescue an animal, you can call yourself a hero!

  • Already an animal mom or dad? Invest in your pet's health by investigating whether pet insurance is right for you. If you decide to forego the insurance, consider saving some money every month for those unexpected vet bills. Keeping our animal friends happy and health keeps US happy and healthy, too!

  •  Take them to the park then make a stop at the pet store so they can pick out a new toy. If you have a cat, give them a new toy (or a string or a laser pointer...they're so easily entertained by non-toy items!) or have a party in their honor! Get your kids to help you make cat-shaped cookies. Check out Pinterest for some ideas!
